Derek Bieber Trending on Twitter Thanks to Crafty Justin Bieber Fans

Twitter may have tweaked its algorithm last year to keep Justin Bieber off the list of trending topics, but the Beliebers will not be stopped. They’ve made “Derek Bieber” a trending topic after an offhand remark the teen singer made.
Yesterday, Bieber joked to TMZ, “My name’s Derek… I’m just a lookalike. I don’t know why you guys are following me around with cameras.” Bieber fans then succeeded in their attempt to make “Derek Bieber” a trending topic on the social networking site, alongside other current trending topics as “PGA Championship,” “NFL Preseason” and “#wtfwasyouthinking.”
Bieber’s fans have made him the second most-followed person on Twitter, behind only Lady Gaga and just ahead of President Obama. They also helped him win four Teen Choice Awards on Sunday. “I wanna say thanks so much to all my fans for being so amazing,” he said during an acceptance speech.

In the Derek Bieber interview, the singer also refuted charges that he’s become a brat, saying, “I don’t think you should believe everything you hear. People make up stuff all the time.”
