Drake will receive the honor at the Walk of Fame Awards, to be held later this year. He said in a press release, “I am a proud Canadian, and I am grateful to Canada’s Walk of Fame and the Slaight Foundation for this award.”
The Walk of Fame praised the rapper’s philanthropic efforts, which include headlining a festival that raised money for autism and multiple sclerosis, participating in Young Artists for Haiti, and supporting music education institutions.
Peter Soumalias, founding director of the Walk of Fame, said, “At 24 years of age, Drake has already achieved what has taken others a lifetime to do. He is kind, smart, talented, philanthropic and driven. He is an inspiring example to all, and we are proud to recognize him this year as our young Canadian making a positive impact.”
It’s hard to believe that, with all that he’s accomplished, Drake has still only released one album. ‘Thank Me Later’ sold more than a million copies and earned multiple Grammy nominations. Drake has also appeared as a featured artist on singles from Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, DJ Khaled and others. His sophomore album, ‘Take Care,’ drops October 24.
