Chris Colfer — Kurt on ‘Glee’ — admitted to Vogue that when he started on the show, he didn’t even know who Marc Jacobs was and that he pretty much shopped at his local Target. Don’t know Marc Jacobs? Gasp! But things changed once Colfer stepped into Kurt’s more fashionable loafers. “As Kurt, I get to wear all these amazing things, by people whose names I can’t even pronounce,” he said. That’s certainly a perk of the gig.
The cast members are certainly as in tune with offbeat fashion trends and unique looks as they are with their voices, something that show creator/exec producer Ryan Murphy felt was crucial for the show. He said, “From the beginning, I asked the costume designer to give each of these kids an archetypal identity. We didn’t want them to look like generic mall kids. Now their looks are being copied!”
Lea Michele — Rachel on the show — said she would never wear a sweater with an animal face like her alter ego! We don’t blame her; that could get her on the “What Was She Wearing” pages in the weekly gossip tabs. The singer way prefers the couture of Oscar de la Renta, and check her recent Harper’s Bazaar cover, which divorces Lea from Rachel in the attire department!
Murphy even puts the star’s relationship to clothes in perspective, saying, “When I met Lea, she was only sort of interested in clothes — but in the last two years she’s become a red carpet star. I think what happened is Lea went to an event, and someone said, ‘Oh, you look pretty.’ It was an interesting moment for her.”
