Lil Wayne Holds Down Top Three Spots on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart

Lil Wayne

Rapper Jay-Z maybe No. 1 when it comes to making cash, but when it comes to having radio hits, look no further than Lil Wayne. The Young Money CEO has become the first rapper to appear on three different songs atop three spots on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay chart.
Weezy is holding down the No. 1 to No. 3 positions, respectively, with ‘I’m On One’ by DJ Khaled featuring himself, Drake and Rick Ross, his own rap ballad ‘How to Love’ and ‘Motivation’ by Kelly Rowland where he spits a verse. Jumping up from No. 5 to No. 4 is Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Super Bass.’ Although the song doesn’t feature Wayne, she’s an artist on the Young Money label, so it’s basically a win-win situation for Weezy.
This chart-topping feat also makes the aforementioned artist’s parent label, Universal Republic, the first record company to ever notch four spots on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart in nearly six years. “I take great pride in having reached this accomplishment,” said Michael Horton, Sr. VP of Urban Promotion at Universal Republic. “This was made possible through strategic planning, the dedication of my staff and the exceptional music of our gifted artists: Kelly Rowland, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake and DJ Khaled.”
Wayne’s next goal is to see if he can reach the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s 200 album chart with his upcoming LP ‘Tha Carter IV.’ The collection is due to hit stores on Aug. 29. Tunechi also received a nomination for Best Hip-Hop Video (’6 Foot 7 Foot’) at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards, which will air on Aug. 28 at 8PM EST.
