‘Super Bass’ rose from No. 4 to No. 3 this week, most likely bouyed by her revealing performance on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ last week.
“Nicki isn’t like any other female rapper,” Cash Money co-founder/co-CEO Ronald “Slim” Williams tells Billboard. “We knew she had the goods when Lil Wayne signed her. She’s not a female rapper — she’s a pop star who happens to rap.”
Other female rappers in the “Top 10 Club” include M.I.A. (‘Paper Planes’), Lil Mama (‘Lip Gloss’), Missy Elliott (‘Get Ur Freak On’) , Lauryn Hill (‘Doo Wop [That Thing]‘), Da Brat (‘Funkdafied’) and Neneh Cherry (‘Buffalo Stance’).
Ms. Hill is the only female rhyme-spitter to have a No. 1 rap hit (‘Doo Wop’) as a solo woman in Billboard Hot 100′s chart history. However, that might change as Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ could possibly hit the top spot in a matter of weeks.
The song’s success can be credited to many things including the impromptu videos that pop sirens Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez made of them rapping ‘Super Bass,’ which instantly went viral.
Overall, it looks like Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ will be boomin’ in your stereo speakers for weeks to come.
