Akon, ‘Still a Survivor’ – Song Review
‘Still a Survivor’ – Song Review, Akon 8:23 PM
Akon dropped a new mixtape in June called ‘Konkrete,’ which features the anthemic song, ‘Still a Survivor.’ The track sounds a little dated but it’s radio-friendly with its glorious foot-stomping beat, plinking pianos, handclaps and orchestral strings.
The Senegalese crooner hasn’t lost his recognizable falsetto either, as encourages those whose “back is up against the wall” to keep on “surviving.” He sings: “Just like my n—-s that really never made it home / And being honest they gettin’ that money / Tryin’ their best to feed their family / No matter what the hustle is going / we’ll find a way to get up on it / Got to put that muscle on it / Stand on the corner till the early mornin’.”
‘Still a Survivor’ is not going to bring any Grammy awards to the Akon’s mantle, but it’s good to hear that he’s still “surviving” and not running the cash register at McDonald’s (I’m kidding). We should hear some new music from him before he releases his new album ‘Stadium’ in September. Hopefully, with better promotions behind it.
