According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ciara could possibly join the newly-restructured Epic Label Group, which is now being run by music mogul Antonio L.A. Reid. It was Reid who first signed a young Ci-Ci at his former label LaFace Records in 2003. In 2004, Ciara released her debut album ‘Goodies’ and the rest, as they say, is multi-platinum history.
However, earlier this year, Ciara demanded that she be released from Jive Records after her 2010 album ‘Basic Instinct’ sold poorly. The R&B songbird blamed the struggling label for their lack of support behind the project.
Since then, Ciara has become sort of a celebrity debutante hanging out with Kim Kardashian and squashing twitter beefs with Rihanna. Currently, the singer is about to embark on a small U.S. tour with pop crooner Taio Cruz beginning July 16 in Miami.
Meanwhile, back at Epic, Reid reportedly is looking to bring Usher, Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez to the label, as well. If this happens, it will certainly look like a family reunion since L.A., at one time, mentored all of those artists himself.
Staffers at Epic are “energized” about their future with their new boss. “L.A. is one of the only people inside that company that has his finger on the hip-hop music scene, and if you look at the Billboard Top 20, that’s what it’s all about,” said an insider. “He’s a good A&R guy and he’ll do a good job.”
