Katy Perry Wins Video of the Year Award at the 2011 MTV VMAs

Katy Perry won Video of the Year at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, and everybody was so happy for her that nobody made fun of the 12-inch tall yellow square that was perched diagonally on top of her head for no clear reason.
After beating out Adele, Tyler the Creator, the Beastie Boys and Bruno Mars for the biggest honor of the evening, Perry slowly and carefully walked to the stage, most likely to avoid tipping over her elaborate headgear.

It was quickly apparent she wasn’t going to go after Tyler’s “most profanities” title, instead keeping her speech very cheery and positive: “Oh my God, thank you so much. This is a night of firsts! This is my second moon man. And I’m very very proud of this, because I’m very proud for the song that it stands for, which is ‘Firework,’ and I feel like I am doing something right when I sing that song.”
She then thanked all the typical biz folks, then her fans, and then, “last but not least, my husband.” That would be British comedian Russell Brand, who earlier in the evening delivered a touching and extremely sincere tribute to his former friend, recently departed singer Amy Winehouse.
