We’re certainly not singling him out for the naughty words. Lady Gaga set an R-rated tone early in the evening during her show-opening monologue with a torrent of foul language, and Jay-Z, Kanye West and many others were quick to join in. Still, Tyler’s speech might have taken the f—— cake:
“Yo, I’m excited as f— right now. I wanted this sh– since I was nine, I’m about to cry. This is for my little brother Earl, he’s not here right now. I really can’t believe I’m here right now. I didn’t write a thank you speech but I don’t know. —–. To all the kids that are watching, you can do this s— yourself, be —— (something) golf money, thank you.”
It was a particularly nice touch of Tyler to not patronize the young children who he was hoping to connect with by, you know, cleaning up his language or anything condescending like that.
In all seriousnessthough, Tyler was a surprising and wonderfully deserving choice for this award. Congrats on the accolade Tyler!
